Fast bowler Gurinder Sandhu has joined Sydney Sixers, thereby ending his eight-year-long association with Sydney Thunder ahead of the 10th edition of the Big Bash League. Sandhu has been added as a local replacement for star pacer Mitchell Starc, who will be on national duty during the first half of BBL 10.

Sandhu, who played a couple of One-day Internationals for Australia during the 2015 Commonwealth Bank tri-nation series involving India and England as the other two teams, has been a member of the Sydney Thunder franchise since making his debut for them in BBL 02. He is their second highest-wicket-taker in BBL history.

The 27-year-old is currently plying his trade for Queensland in grade cricket after neither the Thunder nor the Tasmanian Tigers renewed his contract at the culmination of last summer.

“I’m very thankful for this opportunity from the Sydney Sixers that has been provided to me and I’m just going to do the best I can here,” Gurinder Sandhu said. ’ll train with the guys and try and learn what I can. I am only 27 so I still have plenty of learning to do.”

Gurinder Sandhu is an experienced campaigner at the BBL and he is hoping to bring his years of experience in the absence of Mitchell Starc in the Sydney Sixers set-up.

“Having played BBL cricket since BBL|02, I think experience is something I can bring the Sydney Sixers. It feels awesome to be here, it feels really good. It’s a new place for me. Some fresh faces and some old faces too which has kind of been good for me to get back and see some old Cricket NSW teammates,” Gurinder Sandhu added.

“It’s exciting wearing the magenta. It’s obviously different to what I’ve worn around this time of year coming into Christmas.” he added.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc is expected to make a return to the Sydney Sixers set-up post the culmination of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in mid-January.

Sydney Sixers have begun their training camp in Sydney on Monday and are set to fly to Hobart on Saturday. The defending champions will begin their 2020/21 campaign against Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena on Thursday, December 10.
