Zimbabwe skipper Hamilton Masakadza has decided to hang his boots from international cricket after the upcoming tri-series in Bangladesh involving Afghanistan. The veteran batsman has been one of the star performers for their side in the 21st century.

Masakadza announced his arrival when he became the youngest batsman ever to score a century on his Test debut, at 17 years and 254 days. Since then, he has led Zimbabwe to many historic wins in his 18-year long career. He gradually grew in stature as a batsman and was at his best in 2009.

The right-hand batter scored over 1000 runs in ODIs in the calendar year at an average of 43.48 and a strike rate of 88.08, including scores of 156 and 178 not out against Kenya. Hamilton Masakadza became the first batsman to score two 150+ scores in one series.

The 36-year-old has played 38 Test, 209 ODI and 62 T20I for Zimbabwe since making his international debut in 2001. Masakadza has amassed 9,410 international runs including ten centuries and 42 fifties.  Hamilton Masakadza is fourth on Zimbabwe’s ODI and Test run-getters lists.

Zimbabwe Cricket took to social media to reveal the news about Masakadza’s retirement. Zimbabwe, who is currently under suspension by ICC will look to produce some outstanding results as the cricketers’ fight to save the game in their country.

Hamilton Masakadza will be keen to lift his game to best possible and help Zimbabwe win the tri-series and give them some oxygen to survive. The tournament will run between 13 to 24 September.

“Hamilton Masakadza has announced he will be retiring from all forms of international cricket after the T20I tri-series in Bangladesh,” they wrote on Twitter.
