India’s Twenty20 skipper Harmanpreet Kaur played a swashbuckling knock of 74 runs off 44 deliveries for Lancashire Thunder in the ongoing Kia Super League (KSL) game against the Yorkshire Diamonds on August 14 (Tuesday).
Meanwhile, Harmanpreet’s knock ensured that her team registered a 154 for nine at the halfway stage. Harmanpreet, who walked in the middle at 43 for two in the eighth over, ensured that her team scores 58 runs in the last six overs.
Moreover, her knock included four fours and six over-boundaries.
Harmanpreet grandly started her Kia Super League scoring a 21-ball 34. Her heroics in the last over ensured that Lancashire reached the target without any hiccups. However, Harmanpreet had a lean patch in the next four innings.
After an excellent debut, Kaur bagged a golden duck when she was run out. She followed it up with yet another duck; this time without facing a delivery. Her next two innings yielded only eight and four runs respectively.
Lancashire, however, kept losing wickets from the other end, after a 53-run stand between Kaur and Nicole Bolton (46). Harmanpreet Kaur then took the attack to the opposition at the end smashing three six of her last seven deliveries.
Kaur’s innings finally came to an end in the final over when she miscued a shot off Katharine Brunt.
Meanwhile, Yorkshire fell nine runs short after a superb effort from Brunt (44* off 25). Despite some good innings from their players, wickets at regular intervals halted Yorkshire’s chances.
Lancashire Thunder vs Yorkshire Diamonds: Harmanpreet Kaur, second cricketer to hit six sixes in Kia Super League
Harmanpreet becomes the second cricketer after Lizelle Lee in the history of Kia Super League to hit six sixes in an innings. South African wicketkeeper-batswoman Lee did it twice for her team Surrey Stars.
Previously, Western Storm players Smriti Mandhana and Heather Knight struck five sixes apiece in their opening game against Yorkshire Diamonds.
Another Western Storm player, Stafanie Taylor, hit five sixes in 2016 season to become the first in KSL to hit five sixes in a game.
