Back Injury Likely To Rule Out Hasan Ali For Another Six Months

After missing out on the central contracts announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday, Hasan Ali has suffered another setback. A back injury may most likely rule him out for another six months. The speedster spent plenty of time on the sidelines in 2019 due to back problems and fractured ribs. Hasan did come back to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the Peshawar Zalmi in the most recent edition.

In the competition, the 25-year old featured in nine matches, picking up eight wickets. His best figures of 2/35 came against the Islamabad United in Rawalpindi. Hasan Ali’s last game for Pakistan came in the 2019 Cricket World Cup, in which the men in green exited in the group stage. The fixture against India at the Old Trafford in Manchester was his last for the national side.
At present, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is closely monitoring his injury. The apex body of Pakistan cricket has reached out to some overseas doctors to assess the depth of Hasan Ali’s injury and get him the best treatment. There may follow surgery in the future, the decision for which would be taken by the medical specialists accordingly.

Alongside the Punjab-born cricketer, Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz are also the ones missing from the list of centrally contracted players. When asked Misbah-Ul-Haq about Hasan Ali, he confirmed that due to extensive injuries, he has missed out on the majority of their season. Hence, it was the right call but mentioned that all three would be considered for selection.
Hasan played an integral role in Pakistan’s historic and come from behind Champions Trophy victory in 2017.
Due to his stellar display in that competition, he received the player of the tournament award. But from there on, the seamer has had his trials and tribulations. In nine Tests, 53 ODIs, and 30 ODIs, he has snared 31, 82, and 35 scalps respectively. In 50-over cricket, the 25-year old Hasan has also notched up a couple of half-centuries with a high score of 59 against the Proteas at Durban.
