Senior Indian team batter Shikhar Dhawan shared his experience of working with head coach Rahul Dravid and what kind of bond they share.

Dhawan has played against Dravid in the IPL when the latter was at the peak of his playing career. It was during the Sri Lanka tour in July 2021, the time before Dravid was yet to take India’s head coach role, that Dhawan had the opportunity to work with the former India captain.

Have a very good relationship with Rahul Dravid: Shikhar Dhawan

Dravid was appointed the coach of the second-string Indian side led by Dhawan with the senior team in England preparing for the Test series.

Dhawan reunited with Dravid last month as he was named India’s stand-in skipper for the ODI series against the West Indies, where India swept the hosts 3-0.

The left-handed batter also mentioned how the two individuals have interacted over the years.

“I have a very good relationship with Rahul Dravid. I’ve had the opportunity to play against him (in the IPL) and during India ‘A’ games when he was the coach, we had a lot of interaction and we have been in sync since then,” Dhawan told TimesofIndia.com.

“That has been carried forward through the years. Even at the NCA, when he was the director, there were a lot of conversations (that we had) and we have a good understanding of each other and that helped with improving my game and contributing to the plans that Rahul has set out for the team, whether I am the captain or a part of the squad.

“We (Rahul Dravid & Shikhar) had a set plan prior to the series and we were very happy that we were able to execute it to perfection. Post the game in the dressing room also, we all came together and celebrated the collective success of the team,” he added.
