The selection of head coach has always been a controversial aspect in the game of cricket. A lot of opinions from the various people will be put on the table and the result would certainly don’t taste right to the section of the people, as their opinion was overlooked. One such head coach, who received a lot of criticism was Richard Pybus, who is the interim coach of Windies Cricket Team.
Speaking of the same, the head coach quoted that he isn’t worried about the criticism. He believes that criticism is an aspect, which always revolves around the game of cricket. Further, he added that the boys are looking to perform against Englishmen to deliver the goods for the country at any cost.
Guys are focussed on winning series – Richard Pybus
Pybus also quoted that he doesn’t want to dig the past when Darren Sammy was pretty disappointed with the selection of Richard Pybus. Darren quoted that Pybus was the main reason behind Windies quitting India’s tour from the middle of the bilateral series. However, Pybus wants to look at his record books.
“It’s part of the landscape. I have just got to get on with the job, really,” said Pybus. “Criticism is part of the tapestry and the drama around the sport. The team are very focused, positive and motivated. You guys will write your stories, create a bit of an angle and drama but, from my side, I’m not really worried about that. The guys are focused on the series coming up. There are no issues. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into England. I don’t want to sound too ‘Zen’ but I’m really focused on the first day and making sure we’re ready.”
“I don’t want to unpack the past,” Pybus said in response. “Darren is entitled to his opinion. I don’t want to give boring one-liners but I did three years as director of cricket and what’s in the results bank is in the results bank. It’s the players on the park who deliver. But I was satisfied at the time with how the programmes supported players,” he added.
The Caribbean is a tough place to work:
He also revealed that the Caribbean has got 16 countries, unlike any other team in the world cricket. For Darren Sammy criticism, he said that with so many countries involving, he added that there will be a lot of discussions over the selection of players. Pybus quoted that the pressure can be understood only if he/she has the knowledge of the country.
“It’s the Caribbean, you’ve got 16 countries. It’s not like England, Australia or South Africa. With the internal politics, there’s always discussion. Unless you’ve spent a considerable amount of time in the region it’s difficult to understand quite how challenging it is,” he added.
All in all, it seems like Richard Pybus is pretty focussed to make things happen for Windies this time. As he said, it is always tough to pick players from 16 countries-involved-Carribean. In their next task, they will be locking horns against England.
