Australia allrounder Glenn Maxwell has joked he apologised to his IPL teammate KL Rahul while taking India bowlers to the cleaners during the first ODI against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday (November 27).

Just a few days ago, Glenn Maxwell was looking terribly out of form while plying his trade for KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab. The hard-hitting batsman played in every match except the last league game but managed to score just 108 runs from 11 innings at a paltry average of 15.42 and a dismal strike-rate of 101.88.

He failed to hit a single six during the entire competition and faced criticism from several quarters for his poor performance. However, he was back to his best on Friday as soon as he donned the Australian jersey. He took the Indian bowlers to cleaners during his whirlwind knock to help his side post 374 for 6.

Glenn Maxwell scored 45 off just 19 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes and shared a 57-run stand off just 25 balls with Steve Smith. Australia went on to win the clash by 66 runs. Chasing an improbable 375, India ended up on 308 for 8 with Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya scoring fighting fifties.

Glenn Maxwell’s funny take on his contrasting form:

A lot is being said about Glenn Maxwell’s contrasting form for his IPL and national team. And the batsman had a funny take on the matter too. On Saturday, Glenn Maxwell joked that he apologised to Rahul who was standing behind the stumps for India.

The Australia star was responding to a tweet from his IPL teammate Jimmy Neesham who had also impressed for New Zealand on Sunday after a poor IPL campaign for KXIP.

“I apologised to him while I was batting,” wrote Glenn Maxwell.
