I Don't Have The Leeway Like Other Teammates, Dawid Malan Blasts England Selectors

David Malan celebrates a milestone.

England’s Dawid Malan lambasted the selection policy of ECB. He feels there is no room for any slip-up in order to cement a place in the nation’s T20 side. Malan has been named for the One-Dayers and T20Is against South Africa this very month.

Dawid Malan’s make or break moment

The Three Lions have rested Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler from the ODIs and snubbed James Vince and Tom Banton from the T20I side. It could prove to be a great opportunity for the Yorkshire man to make a bid for himself.

“One or two games every now and again has been the story of my Twenty20 career with England – it’s been very sporadic with the nature of T20s on the international stage usually being short series,” he said while speaking to Sky Sports

The 32-year-old has played a total of 15 Tests, nine T20Is and a sole ODI game. His record in the shortest format of the game is quite spectacular. He wonders what more he has to do with the bat in order to get rewarded with a place in the side.

“With that, I know I need to score runs – and with an average over 57 and a strike rate over 150 in my nine T20Is, I don’t know what else I can do to break into the team for the T20 World Cup.

“I don’t know how you can be under pressure with numbers like that, even though I know the strength of the competition for places.

Dawid Malan launches one into the stands.

Malan took a dig at some of the current members in the team. He feels certain crop of cricketers had the leverage of getting a longer rope in spite of them failing to score consistently.

“I feel I have to score every chance I get as I don’t have the leeway that the established members of the side do. I need to churn out runs every time in order to get that leeway.” Malan opined.
