A decision on the 2020 T20 World Cup was to be taken in July but as of now it still remains undecided by the ICC. If the global governing council make a call it will help the BCCI decide the future of IPL. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly believes the global governing council will try their best to host the T20 World Cup this year as it is a high revenue tournament.

However, former Cricket Australia CEO Kevin Roberts had asserted its inability to host the tournament in 2020. One of the major concerns about hosting a mega-team even would be the logistics and to get it sorted in a pandemic situation would be a daunting task for the organisers. Amid all this, it looks like postponing the tournament would be a fair call.

Sourav Ganguly said that like IPL is to BCCI, the T20 World Cup is to ICC and they will try their best to host it. He also said that his cricket board will wait for their decision to decide the fate of IPL 2020.

“Just like you, I keep reading, We have had discussions in the ICC, there is no decision yet. I think the ICC is also trying its level best to host the World Cup because it is a huge revenue earner. And just like the IPL is to us, the World Cup is to ICC. From that point, I am sure they are trying every bit to host the World Cup. We will only have to wait for their decision,” Sourav Ganguly told India Today.

The 16-team 2020 T20 World Cup is originally slated to take place from October 18 to November 15. It is likely that the tournament will be postponed to next year. CSA director of cricket Graeme Smith and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) President Kumar Sangakkara had hinted about the possibilities of the tournament being postponed to early 2021.
