England white-ball coach Matthew Mott has provided an update on Jofra Archer and Mark Wood’s injury condition ahead of the T20 World Cup.

England is currently missing several first-choice bowlers, including Archer and Mark Wood, due to injuries.

Mott believes Archer will be out of the tournament but is more hopeful about Wood’s possibilities. “It will be a bit of a challenge for Jofra,” Mott admits.

“Wood is probably the closest. We would love to have both of those guys right now.” But we have no control over it. Whatever we bring to the World Cup has to be good enough.”

Meanwhile, Wood suffered an elbow injury during England’s March Test series against the West Indies and made clear last month that he was set to undergo a second operation to be ready for the World Cup in October.

‘I am still working to come back on the field‘: Jofra Archer

Since he plans to start bowling again in September and England’s World Cup campaign is scheduled to begin on October 22, Archer has made it known that he hopes to be back in action at the tournament.

Jofra Archer stated: “I am still working to come back on the field” in a Daily Mail piece.

“This county season will not allow for that to occur in a game setting, but the thought that I should be bowling by September to play competitive cricket again shortly after keeps me going. Remember that the World Cup begins in October.”

The eighth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in Australia in October and November of 2022.
