The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest update for the ICC ODI men’s players rankings on July 21, 2021. The rankings took into account the three-match series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, the third Ireland versus South Africa match, and the first two ODIs between Sri Lanka and India.

The rankings saw some significant movement in players’ positions thanks to their performances for their respective teams. Zimbabwe lost the ODI series to Bangladesh 3-0, while South Africa won their series against Ireland 2-1, following a shock defeat. India, on the other hand, took a 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

Shikhar Dhawan Moves To 16th Spot, Virat Kohli Remains Second  

Shikhar Dhawan saw himself rising in the ICC ODI players rankings for batsmen after his 86* in the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo. India won the first match by chasing down a 263-runs target with ease, thanks to Prithvi Shaw’s blazing innings at the start and Ishan Kishan’s fiery debut half-century.

Dhawan’s unbeaten 86 in the first game of the ongoing three-ODI series in Colombo helped him accumulate 712 rating points and gain two slots. On the other hand, Virat Kohli held onto his second spot in the rankings with 848 points.

Another senior India batsman Rohit Sharma is in the third position with 817 points in the list headed by Pakistan’s Babar Azam (873).

Shakib Al Hasan Reaches 8th Spot In ICC ODI Bowlers Rankings

Meanwhile, Bangladesh whitewashed Zimbabwe in the ODI series in their own backyard. This series saw ace Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan making significant gains in the ICC ODI bowling rankings. In the latest rankings released by the governing body, Shakib moved up nine places to reach the eighth position.

In the series opener, Shakib Al Hasan returned with a five-wicket haul, helping his team win by a massive 155-run margin. Shakib Al Hasan continued the good work in the next two games, picking up two wickets in the second ODI and one wicket in the final match.

He also scored 145 runs in the past three games at an average of 72.50, thereby helping Bangladesh accomplish a clean sweep. Shakib gained 37 points during the series to go past the likes of Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Pat Cummins to break into the top 10 once again.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is the lone Indian bowler in the top ten of the ICC ODI bowling rankings, holding onto his position (6th) and has 683 rating points to his name.
