Former legendary India opener and member of the Kings XI Punjab think tank, Virender Sehwag, expressed his elation on Twitter after witnessing the Indian under-19 team sail past their traditional rivals Pakistan to book a place in the finals of the ICC U-19 World Cup in New Zealand.

It was yet again the solid performance from the top order and the fast bowlers which ensured an Indian victory at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. The highest scorer of the tournament presently (341 runs, average: 170.5), India’s number three Shubman Gill, yet again sparkled with the bat with his unbeaten knock of 102 which helped India post a challenging total of 271 in front of the Pakistanis.

However, it was the pace bowling from India which created havoc within the Pakistani camp, as Ishan Porel picked up a four-wicket haul and ran past the opposition’s batting lineup, conceding only 17 runs in his spell. Spinners Shiva Singh and Riyan Parag also chipped in with a couple of wickets each, as the boys in green were bundled out for 69 runs.

With this thumping win of 203 runs, India U19 will now face the Australian U19 team in the finals of the coveted championship, to be held at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on February 3. Australians, on the other hand, overhauled the spirited Afghan U19 team in the semifinals to book their berth in the finals of the multi-lateral tournament.

KXIP mentor, Virender Sehwag, who has been brainstorming lately to fill the roster of the team in the IPL auctions, took notice of the clinical Indian performance and was one of the first few prominent cricketing personalities to appreciate the efforts of the youngsters. He stressed on the brutality of the Indian U19 team while dismantling the Pakistani team and also wished them all the luck for the finals later this week.

“That was brutal. What a win for our boys, thoroughly out playing Pakistan. Best wishes for the finals #INDvsPAK #U19WorldCup”, tweeted Virender Sehwag.
