ICC World Cup 2019: ICC Announces Prize Money For the Winners of the Marquee Event

The International Cricket Council (ICC) have revealed that the winners of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 will earn a hefty sum of $ 4 million, the highest prize money till date. Besides, they will also get the illustrious trophy that they will lift on July 16 at the iconic Lords. England and Wales will host the 12th edition of the showpiece event starting from May 30 with England taking on South Africa in the tournament opener at the Oval.
Meanwhile, the total prize money for the tournament is set to $ 10 million. While the runners-up will earn $ 2 million, the semifinalists will take home $ 800,000 each at the end of the 46-day tournament. The tournament will see 48 matches over seven weeks played in 11 venues across in England and Wales. Besides, there will be prize money for each game won in the group stages.

Many have tipped this ICC World Cup to be the most competitive among all the previous 11 editions. The ten teams in the tournament will play against each other in a single-league format, with the top four sides after 45 matches to qualify for the two semi-finals. Australia are the defending champions having won the last World Cup in 2015 under the leadership of Michael Clarke.
This time around, they have a strong squad and have already landed in England to defend their target. The Aussies are the most successful team having won events in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2015. The West Indies won the first two editions in 1975 and 1979, while India won in 1983 and 2011. Other winners are Pakistan in 1992 and Sri Lanka in 1996.
