The International Cricket Council has asked former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, to remove army insignia from his wicketkeeping gloves. Dhoni was seen supporting the insignia on his gloves in the World Cup opening match against South Africa at Rose Bowl, Southampton on 5th June. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni’s love affair with the defence forces is well known and he has many times used camouflage gloves to show his love for the Indian Army.

On the other hand, the governing body is not impressed with MS Dhoni’s gesture and wants the symbol to be removed from Dhoni’s gloves. Subsequently, the ICC has written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India to ask Dhoni to remove the symbol. Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager, Strategic Communications has requested BCCI the same.

Dhoni once again shows his Army love.

“We have requested the BCCI to get it removed,” she said as quoted by IANS.

MS Dhoni had sported the Ballidan badge on his gloves. Balidaan is a distinct insignia of the special forces, which form part of the Parachute Regiment. In fact, Dhoni was honoured with a prestigious rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment in 2011.

ICC Regulations does not permit.

The social media had once again applauded MS Dhoni for showing his military love.

However, the ICC regulations say, “The ICC equipment and clothing regulations do not permit the display of messages that relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes during an international match.”
