Former India cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar sparked controversy when he called India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja a bits and pieces cricketer. Jadeja gave a befitting reply as Manjrekar made a U-turn to pick the all-rounder in the predicted XI for the semifinal clash against New Zealand. This allowed former England Michael Vaughan to took a sly dig at Manjrekar and since then they have been at loggerheads on the social media site.

Manjrekar-Vaughan involved in Twitter spat

It all started after India’s defeat to England at Edgbaston with Indian spinners going for cleaners against the English openers. Sanjay Manjrekar said that he is not a fan of bits and pieces player when asked for his view on whether Ravindra Jadeja should replace one of the wrist spinners, Yuzuvendra Chahal or Kuldeep Yadav. Instead, he would prefer a proper bowler or a batsman. But, a few days after, Manjrekar made a U-turn and picked Jadeja in the playing XI for the semifinal match.

Soon after Sanjay Manjrekar revealed his India’s playing XI for the semifinals, Michael Vaughan took on  Manjrekar for selecting all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in his playing XI.

I see you have picked that bits and pieces cricketer !!!,” Vaughan took a dig at Manjrekar.

Sanjay Manjrekar immediately defended himself, saying that it was a predicted XI and not the team he wants to play. He intended once again that he would not pick Ravindra Jadeja in the first XI.

“‘Predicted’ my dear Vaughan…not ‘my’ team,” Manjrekar replied.

Michael Vaughan continued to irk Sanjay Manjrekar asking him to reveal his playing XI for the semifinal clash against New Zealand on July 9. He also asked him whether he will be picking Ravindra Jadeja after his outstanding performance in the last group match against Sri Lanka.

“What’s your team then my dear Sanjay !! Are you picking any bits & pieces cricketers ?”  Vaughan replied again.

India; however, will look to keep themselves away from all this and focus on their match on Tuesday. Virat Kohli & Co will be desperate to beat the Kiwis to book a semifinal date with England or Australia on July 14.
