On the other hand, Sri Lanka had stunned England due to which the tournament was wide open again. However, Sri Lanka was not able to come up with consistent performances and the lack of inexperience was palpable in their renditions.

Here is Sri Lanka player’s rating.

Dimuth Karunaratne – 6/10

The Sri Lankan skipper led his team with aplomb but the inexperience in his leadership was noticeable. Karunaratne provided good starts to his team but he failed to capitalise on them. The southpaw batsman scored 222 runs at an average of 37 in the seven matches he played. However, he scored his runs at a mundane strike rate of 71.38 and could not hit the ground running. The left-hander scored two fifties for Sri Lanka in the World Cup.

Kusal Perera – 6.5/10

The left-hander was the most impressive Sri Lankan batsman. However, Perera too got out when he was looking good for a big score. The southpaw batsman was the leading run-getter for Sri Lanka with 273 runs at an average of 39 and an impressive strike rate of 110.98. Perera scored three half-centuries for Sri Lanka but failed to convert any one of them into a century. He was also decent behind the wickets.

Lahiru Thirimanne – 5/10

The left-hander was first backed as an opener in the team. However, when he could not come up with good performances he was pushed down to the number three position. Thirimanne finally showed some form in the last league match against India as he scored a fifty. The southpaw scored 135 runs at an average of 35.75 and at a strike rate of 87.73.

Avishka Fernando – 8.5/10

If there was one positive for Sri Lanka in this World Cup, it has to be Avishka Fernando. The prodigy batsman showed that he possesses the skills to deliver the goods at the topmost level. The right-hander scored a fine hundred against West Indies and he has shown the promise to be the future of Sri Lankan cricket. Fernando scored 203 runs in the four matches he played at an average of 50.75 and strike rate of 105.73.

Kusal Mendis – 3.5/10

The right-hander could not do justice to the skills he has. Mendis was a total disappointment as he scored 143 runs at an ordinary average of 20.73 in the seven matches he played. The right-hander was backed by the team management and the captain but he could not live up to the expectations. Furthermore, Mendis scored his runs at a poor strike rate of 67.14

Dhananjaya de Silva – 5/10

Like Mendis, a lot was expected from Dhananjaya de Silva. However, the right-hander could not hit the straps with the bat as he could only score 108 runs in the seven matches at an average of 27 and strike rate of 62.07. The right-hander could not add the finishing touches to the Sri Lankan innings. However, Dhananjaya de Silva was able to impress with his part-time spin as he took five wickets in seven games.

The all-rounder disappointed with his batting performance as he could not add the finishing touches to the Sri Lankan innings. Perera could only amass 61 runs in the six innings at a poor average of 10.17 and strike rate of 95.31. On the other hand, Perera scalped a solitary wicket in the six matches he played for his team. Thus, it was a disappointing show from the all-rounder.

The southpaw seamer had a decent tournament with the ball. Udana didn’t possess brisk pace and bowled within his limitations. The left-arm pacer took six wickets in the seven matches he played for his team. Isuru Udana gave his runs at an economy rate of 5.75 and bowled with an average of 49.33.
