Australia’s skipper Aaron Finch has heaped praised on former captain Steven Smith. Finch said that Steven Smith is the best batsman in the world. Smith had played a gutsy knock of 73 runs against West Indies in Australia’s second World Cup match when the team had their backs against the wall.

Australia was reeling at 79-5 and Smith’s innings rescued the team from the troubled waters. Smith played with gumption as he took 103 balls to make his 73 runs with the help of seven fours. Thus, the talisman batsman showed his class as he is a technically strong batsman.

Smith had played a gritty knock against West Indies.

Australia was able to post 288 runs after Nathan Coulter-Nile blasted 92 runs from 60 balls. The right-hander scored eight fours and four sixes in his blistering knock.

“Well, when you’ve got world-class players coming back into your side, it’s unfortunate for the guys who have missed out and the guys that have played some really good one-day cricket in the past,” Finch said at the Oval on Saturday.

“Steve is the best batter in the world in my opinion over all three forms of the game,” he said.

On the other hand, David Warner also made a solid comeback at the International level. Warner was in sublime form in the IPL as he scored 692 runs in 12 innings. Furthermore, the southpaw batsman scored an undefeated knock of 89 runs in the opening match against Afghanistan.

“I think that when you have David who’s so destructive at the top of the order, his record shows how destructive he is.

“To have them to come back, yes, it’s great for the side and our batting line-up and for experience in World Cups and a great help for me as a leader, as well, in terms of tactics and stuff out on the field.”

Meanwhile, Aaron Finch believes the series triumph of 3-2 against India in Indian conditions gave shot in the arm to the team. Australia was able to come from behind as they were trailing 2-0. The Australian team has won 10 matches on the trot and they have peaked at the right time.

“I think winning the last three games is really important for us in India, to one, get some self-belief that we can beat this Indian side in their home conditions,” said Finch.

Australia will play their third World Cup match against India at Kennington Oval, London on 9th June.
