ICC World Cup 2019: Twitter Reacts As New Zealand Storm Into The Final
Updated - 10 Jul 2019, 09:33 PM
New Zealand came up with a fine performance to book their final berth as they defeated India by 18 runs. It was a sublime bowling performance from the Kiwis. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson skipper won the toss and decided to bat first. The Kiwis could not get off to a good start as they lost the wicket of Martin Guptill. However, Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls added a good partnership of 68 runs.
Subsequently, New Zealand failed to get going as Indian opening fast bowlers kept a tight grip on the proceedings. Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were right on the money and there were no loose balls on offer.
Fine performance from New Zealand.
Ravindra Jadeja was able to get the second wicket as found the gap between the bat and pad Henry Nicholls.
India kept the runs down as their bowlers did a fine job. Kane Williamson scored his 14th ODI fifty but could not change the gears.
Williamson scored 67 runs from 95 balls with the help of six boundaries. The New Zealand skipper and Ross Taylor added 65 runs before Williamson could not time his drive and gave a simple catch to Ravindra Jadeja at point.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he scalped three wickets. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket each.
India had a horrible start as they lost three early wickets. The man in form Rohit Sharma received a stunning delivery from Matt Henry and the right-hander had to play at it. The ball moved marginally to take the outside edge of the right-hander’s bat. Subsequently, Indian skipper Virat Kohli was plumbed in front by Trent Boult by an incoming delivery.
KL Rahul was in double thoughts whether to play or leave the ball. Matt Henry found the outside edge of the right-hander’s bat and Tom Latham took a fine catch. Thus, India had their backs against as they were tottering at 5-3.
However, Ravindra Jadeja scored a fighting fifty to get India back into the contest. MS Dhoni showed his experience as he also gave good support to his partner.
Here is how Twitter reacted:
Kane Williamson is one smart captain ?? He’s no different to what Dhoni was for India as captain ?? Clear and brave. When needing to help your team to defend a small total you need exceptional decision making from your LEADER ?? Not forgetting the runs – well done @BLACKCAPS ??

Congratulations to @BLACKCAPS on making it to the finals. Jadeja played an outstanding innings and got India in the game along with MS Dhoni, yet it was a case of so near yet so far #IndvNZ

What a performance by New Zealand, near perennial semi-finalists but as yet, not among the winners…. a chance to rectify that Sunday
— Derek Pringle (@derekpringle) July 10, 2019
It was a semi-final, so tense as hell. It also had the advantage of not having all 100 overs on one day. But in the end NZ won by a long way. I shouldn’t have sworn, but the point still stands! https://t.co/zug4PCiOF0

All over with @msDhoni’s run out. Guptill, utter failure with bat, clinches winning moment with a bullet direct throw. Have we seen the last of MSD?
— Cricketwallah (@cricketwallah) July 10, 2019
I don't know how far this innings is going but Jadeja has played the innings of his life. And put a bit of pressure back on New Zealand
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) July 10, 2019
It has to be Ravindra Jadeja's best fifty. What a time to get it. Keep going SIR. #CWC19 #IndvNZ

— Rajesh Khilare (@Cricrajeshpk) July 10, 2019
Top knock though Jadeja, had to go for it. Superb batting.
— Nikhil ? (@CricCrazyNIKS) July 10, 2019
What an innings. One of the most spunky, in a World Cup semifinal. Jadeja 77 off 59. And a nerveless catch from Williamson under extreme pressure. #CWC19 #INDvNZ
— Anand Vasu (@anandvasu) July 10, 2019
Career started with a run out. Have to wonder if it ended with one, too. If that's the last time we've seen him in India colours, played MS. Fine, fine career. Sad enough.
— Shashank Kishore (@captainshanky) July 10, 2019
Valiant innings. A rare run-out in his last innings in a World Cup match.
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) July 10, 2019
A 50 and a runout in a heartbreaking defeat. Not quite finishing off in style, but thanks for some great memories, Dhoni.
