India’s all-rounder Vijay Shankar suffered a blow to toes during the team’s net session at Rose Bowl, Southampton on 20th June. Shankar was facing India’s pack leader Jasprit Bumrah who bowled a yorker at Shankar’s feet. Thus, the right-hander was seen in pain and had to walk back to the dressing room.

This could be a big blow for the India National Cricket Team as they are already hampered by injury woes. Shankar had made his World Cup debut in the previous match against Pakistan. In fact, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder had struck with his first delivery as he had plumbed Imam-ul-Haq in front of the wickets.

This could be a big blow for India.

Shankar went on to scalp two wickets in his spell and he was accurate with his line and length against Pakistan. Hence, India will want that Shankar regains his fitness ahead of the clash against Afghanistan.

“Yes, Vijay was in pain but it has subsided by the evening. Hopefully, there’s nothing scary,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Vijay Shankar is expected to bat at number four position. Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the entire tournament which has forced the team management to promote KL Rahul to the opening position. Rishabh Pant has been confirmed as the replacement for Shikhar Dhawan.

In fact, Shankar injury is not a serious one and it is reported that he should be fine for the match against Afghanistan.

On the other hand, India has got off to a good start in the World Cup. The Men in Blue have won three matches out of their four games. However, one match against New Zealand was washed out due to rain. Hence, India looks all set to qualify for the last four of the tournament.

India will play their next match against Afghanistan at Rose Bowl, Southampton on 22nd June.
