The global governing council will discuss with its member nation of possible rescheduling of World Test Championship. The inaugural edition of World Test Championship has been put on the back-burner due to the outrage of the novel coronavirus epidemic. It has seen plenty of matches being lost and cricket boards suffering due to the same.
The council has now opened up an option of rescheduling the championship. The World Test Championship was scheduled to be a two-year affair but now it looks like it will have to be scheduled again. ICC general manager – cricket operations, Geoff Allardice said that it is currently in discussion with the board about its plan.
“We are currently in discussion with members in what their plans are around rescheduling their queue,” Geoff Allardice, ICC general manager – cricket operations, said on a video call.
“Obviously there are teams which have rescheduled them as quickly as possible and depending on how many of them could be rescheduled within the available time window, that will give us a better view on the most appropriate timing for the final.
“But at this stage the final is scheduled for June 2021. But we are working with the members on that, to understand their rescheduling of the series that are postponed already.”
The ongoing Wisden Trophy between England and the West Indies is the first series, which is a part of the World Test Championship, to be played after the epidemic had brought cricket into a halt.
West Indies opened their scoring in the points table with a win over England in Southampton. India currently maintain the top spot with 360 points in their kitty.
