Imran Tahir is one such cricketer who has played alongside both of them. Tahir has played alongside Hashim Amla across formats for South Africa, having made his international debut in 2011. Amla retired from international cricket in 2019 amongst the prolific run-getters for South Africa, accumulating nearly 18000 international runs and becoming the fastest to 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 in ODIs.
On the other hand, the leg-spin bowler has been part of Chennai Super Kings’ set up since 2018 in IPL, playing under MS Dhoni. He also featured alongside the keeper-batsman in 2017 for the Rising Pune Supergiants. The veteran leggie clinched 26 wickets last year, thereby becoming the highest wicket-taker in the edition. During the exclusive interview, along with naming the coolest player, he also narrated an incident involving MS Dhoni.
After carefully thinking and terming it as a tough question, he said that Hashim Amla has to be the coolest player amongst the two. “It’s a tough question, but I would pick Hashim bhai and then Mahi bhai,” Tahir stated.

The Pakistan-born leggie went on to recall his first meeting with the former Indian captain. Tahir recollected his nervousness that time; however, MS Dhoni himself came to him and welcomed him to his room. Hence, the 41-year old labelled it as a very heartening experience. Tahir played last of his 107 ODIs in the 2019 World Cup while he intended to keep playing T20Is.
“I met him when I got picked for Rising Pune Supergiant. I was quite nervous and I didn’t know how to react. But I was amazed that I was outside my room and he came to me and he welcomed me to come to his room. It was heartening to hear something from the legend and then I was like ‘Listen, you are offering me that, I will definitely be coming to your room,” he added.
