Exactly 16 years ago in 2002, Sourav Ganguly had led India to one of their most defining wins in the history. The Sourav Ganguly-led side had successfully chased down England’s 325 – a total considered mammoth during those days – to clinch a memorable victory in the final of the Natwest series.

Number 10 batsman Zaheer Khan tapped the ball on the offside and scampered for a single, only to run back for the winning run courtesy an overthrow, alongside the hero of the match Mohammad Kaif. And not only the win, the post-triumph celebrations are also historic.

The image of Captain Ganguly removing his jersey and waving it wildly over his head at The Lord’s balcony became one of the most enduring and memorable moments in Indian cricket.

Well, India will have the chance to register yet another series win in England at the same venue, just one day after the 16th anniversary of that Natwest triumph. Virat Kohli & Co. currently lead the ODI series 1-0. And a win on Saturday (July 14), will see them wrap up the three-match series with a match to go.

Ganguly believes the Men in Blue will replicate his team’s triumph in the upcoming game.

“India will surely win the series at Lord’s like we did in 2002,” Ganguly told IndiaTV.

The former India skipper predicted another lopsided contest in favour of India. So far, the visitors have thoroughly dominated their stay in England. They won the T20Is 2-1 without breaking any sweat. And the domination continued in the first ODI too as they won it by 8 wickets.

“In the four matches India have played so far, three games have been one-sided. They have been thrashing the hosts. In the three-matches they have won, at least one batsman has scored a ton. Cardiff was different because of the conditions, but on these pitches, it’s not easy to get them out. If England don’t study Kuldeep properly, it will be another one-sided affair,” the 46-year-old said.
