Sportzwiki brings you Indian player ratings on a day when Sri Lanka won their first One Day International after 12 losses in the first ODI against India in Dharamsala. Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first in the first ODI of the three-match series and Sri Lankan bowlers did not disappoint their captain as they made full use of the conditions and reduced India to 16/5.

Surnaga Lakmal and Angelo Matthews caused havoc in the Indian top order as the Indian team was bowled out for just 112 courtesy, MS Dhoni who scored 65. Sri Lanka won the match by seven wickets and lead the three match series 1-0.

India’s stand in captain in this series Rohit Sharma had a disappointing start to his captaincy in Indian colours both as a batsman and as a captain. Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit were removed in the first five overs of the innings with India’s score at just two.

Debutant Shreyas Iyer had a disappointing start in 50 over format as he was dismissed for nine. Only three Indian batsmen touched double figures, MS Dhoni (65), Kuldeep Yadav (19) and Hardik Pandya (10). Suranga Lakmal bowled 10 overs on the trot, bowling four maidens, giving away 13 runs and picked up four wickets. Nuwan Pradeep picked up two wickets.

Let’s have a look Indian player ratings for India against Sri Lanka in the first ODI. (Ratings out of 10)

Rohit Sharma (Captain) – 1/10

Rohit Sharma failed in the first ODI as he edged one ball to Dickwella of the bowling off Lakmal for just two. As a captain he had a poor outing too as he was unable to build up the pressure on the Sri Lankan batsmen despite early wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan- 1/10

Shikhar Dhawan failed for the innings in a row against the Lankan lions as he was undone by a smart set up Angelo Matthews and trapped him in front of the stumps for a duck.

Shreyas Iyer- 1/10

Shreyas Iyer made his ODI debut in the match and surely the nerves got to him as he was dismissed for nine runs. He played some solid shots before chopping one on to his stumps.

Dinesh Karthik- 1/10

Dinesh Karthik was unable to open his account in 18 deliveries and was trapped in front of the stump for by Lakmal. Karthik failed to grab on the opportunity to cement a place for himself in the middle order.

Manish Pandey-1/10

Manish Pandey, who got another opportunity to prove his contention in the middle order failed once again as he could only manage two runs off 15 deliveries.

MS Dhoni- 8/10

MS Dhoni was the only bright spot in the Indian batting line as he scored 65 runs and took India past 100 and gave the bowlers something to bowl at.

Hardik Pandya- 2/10

Hardik Pandya was one of the three bowlers to touch double digits while batting as he scored 10 runs but should have taken the responsibility to play a long innings.

Kuldeep Yadav- 3/10

Kuldeep Yadav was the second top scorer for the Indian team as he scored 19 runs. He did not get an opportunity to bowl as Rohit Sharma used just the three fast bowlers.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar- 3/10

Bhuvneshwar Kumar had a decent match with the ball as he picked up an early wicket of Gunathilaka and then clean bowled Thirimanne. He gave away just 42 runs in 8.4 overs and bowled one maiden.

Jasprit Bumrah- 2/10

Jasprit Bumrah had a disappointing match as he could only pick up one wicket. He made the same mistake of the Champions Trophy final when he picked up the wicket of Upul Tharanga but the replay showed that he had over stepped.

Yuzvendra Chahal- 1/10

Yuzvendra Chahal gave some support to Dhoni and battled well but couldn’t open his account. He did not bowl in the match.
