Every Sport is driven by its fans and their dedication towards their teams. Cricket which is a religion in the Indian subcontinent has very dedicated fans towards the game. The Sri Lankan team is currently in India and so are their fans. Mohammad Nilam, a Sri Lankan fan who has been in India since the beginning of the series had to travel back home to look after his ailing father and he was helped by current Indian captain Rohit Sharma.

Fans all over the world follow their teams in the thick and thin and Nilam who isn’t financially very sound did not have money to book a flight to fly back home immediately as his father had to be operated for throat cancer. When Rohit got to know about the condition of the fan through Indian cricket team biggest fan Sudhir Gautam he asked Nilam to meet him. Virat Kohli was also informed about the fan by Sudhir.

Nilam who is a diehard fan of the Sri Lankan cricket team was in India with two other fans Gayan Senanayake and Pubudu.
Nilam said:
“Rohit called me to the team hotel and gave me the ticket. My father is much better now. The surgery went well. I was disturbed when I heard about my father’s health, but Rohit has a big heart and he immediately arranged for my return ticket. He is a gem of a person. He even asked me whether I need any financial help for the surgery, but I refused to take any money. I am grateful that he arranged for my ticket.”

He also spoke about how Virat Kohli offered him help:
“When Virat bhai came to know about my father’s health, he too messaged me and asked if I needed any help. I congratulated Viratbhai on his wedding. I feel blessed and lucky to get so much love from Indian cricketers. They have always been very helpful in arranging match tickets whenever we come to watch them,”
The series is currently levelled at 1-1 and the third and final ODI will be played on Sunday in Vishakhapatnam.
