Suryakumar Yadav, on Monday, once again proved his credentials as one of the best finishers in the country right now. With every outing of his, the right-handed batsman is further strengthening his claim for a place in the national team. The Mumbai star is yet to make his international debut but can soon don the famous blue jersey if he keeps performing like the way he has been performing in recent months.

In his latest outing, he starred for Mumbai as they crushed reigning Vijay Hazare Trophy champions Karnataka. The Mumbai skipper blazed his way to an unbeaten 94 as Mumbai defeated Karnataka by seven wickets in a Group ‘B’ Super League match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The result also ended Karnataka’s winning spree in the competition.

Set a target of 172, Mumbai chased down the total with ease as Suryakumar Yadav single-handedly guided the domestic giants to victory with an over to spare. Mumbai started poorly and were in a spot of bother after losing openers Aditya Tare (12) and Prithvi Shaw (30) with just 44 runs on the board. Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar then steadied the ship by stitching together a 46-run stand.

However, Karnataka pegged Mumbai back by removing Iyer in the 11th over. But once Iyer returned to the pavilion, Suryakumar shifted gears and stole the show with some stunning shots. During his impressive knock which came off just 53 balls, he slammed 11 fours and four towering sixes. He shared a match-winning unbeaten 84-run stand for the fourth wicket with Shivam Dube (22 not out off 18 balls), who played the perfect second fiddle.

Earlier in the game, Karnataka finished on a competitive 171 for 6 despite losing in-form players KL Rahul (0) and skipper Manish Pandey (4) early. In-form Devdutt Padikkal impressed with the bat, scoring 57 off 34 balls. He hit four fours and as many sixes.
