The bilateral relations between India and Pakistan are at an all-time low. Since the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, there has only been one bilateral series between the arch-rivals.

However, both sides continue to meet in ICC events as well as in Asia Cups. The Indian cricket team has an unblemished record over their arch-rivals in the 50-over World Cups. Both sides have met as many as seven times in the tournament and Pakistan is yet to register a single win over the Men in Blue.

India, under the leadership of Virat Kohli, extended that streak to 7-0 last year in England and former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, who was a part of the team that lost to India in 1999, 2003 and 2007 World Cup, feels that the Men in Blue will continue to maintain that record.

India will continue to maintain that record,” Abdul Razzaq told Press Trust of India [PTI].

‘Our players are not able to absorb the pressure’- Abdul Razzaq

Razzaq said that one of the major reasons behind Pakistan not beating India in a World Cup game is because their players are not able to absorb the pressure that comes along with the match.

“It is rare that India and Pakistan play each other in knock-out matches of ICC events. They mostly play in the league stage and India are favorites. Our players are not able to absorb the pressure that comes with this game,” Razzaq added.

Razzaq reminisced about his first meeting with India in the 1999 World Cup game, revealing that the media had put so much pressure on them in the lead-up that the side ‘wilted’ under pressure.

He added: “We used to win a lot against India in Sharjah and also beat them in Canada twice. I remember the 1999 World Cup, people and media put pressure on the players before the game and we wilted. It has stayed like that,t unfortunately.

“The pressure builds on the players though it is like any other match. The players are not confident about beating India in World Cup,” he said.

Razzaq added that Pakistan’s best chance of beating India was in the 2011 World Cup semi-final; a game which the Green shirts eventually lost by 29 runs.
