India started the new year (2020) with the home T20I series victory against Sri Lanka. On Friday (10th January) night, the hosts beat the visitors by 78 runs in the third and final T20I of the series at Pune.
After losing the toss, the home team managed to score 201/6 (20 overs) in the first innings. Chasing down that total, Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 123 runs (15.5 overs). With this victory, India won this series by the 2-0 margin.

i) Sanju Samson missed 73 T20Is before this comeback. It is the most number of consecutive T20Is missing for an Indian cricketer. The previous record-holder was Umesh Yadav who missed 65 consecutive T20Is for his team. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson is also standing in the joint third position of most number of consecutive T20Is missing for a team.
ii) Both the openers KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan scored half-centuries in this match. It was the sixth time when both the Indian openers scored half-centuries in the same T20I innings. However, it was the second time when both the Indian openers scored half-centuries in a T20I match against Sri Lanka.
iii) Virat Kohli became the second Indian (after MS Dhoni) and sixth overall captain to score 11,000 international runs. However, he is the fastest batsman to reach this milestone as he took only 196 international innings to achieve this record. The previous record-holder was Ricky Ponting (Australia/ICC World XI) who achieved this feat in 252 international innings.
iv) Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has taken 53 T20I wickets and becomes the most T20I wicket-taker for India. The next two names in this list are Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal as both picked up 52 T20I wickets.
Sri Lanka
i) Dhananjaya de Silva scored 57 runs in this match. It was the second-highest individual T20I score for a Sri Lankan right-handed batsman against India. The record is 61 by Tillakaratne Dilshan at Colombo (RPS) on 10th February 2009.
