India Suffer Huge Injury Scare As Jasprit Bumrah Twists His Ankle In Auckland T20I

In what could have been a very huge blow to Team India on the ongoing tour of New Zealand, their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah nearly suffered a nasty ankle injury in the ongoing first T20I against the Black Caps. The right-arm, who returned to action this month after a lengthy injury layoff, suffered the bad-looking injury in the very final over of the innings.
On the second ball of the over, Jasprit Bumrah twisted his ankle soon after delivering the ball. As soon as he twisted his ankle, Jasprit Bumrah fell on the ground while grimacing in pain. The physio soon came out running to check the pacer. But to everyone’s relief, Jasprit Bumrah was soon seen tying his shoelaces as he stood up to bowl the remaining balls of the over.
And while he did not face much problem in delivering the remaining four balls of the over, one just cannot say that there is nothing to worry about the injury. A similar injury had ruled Prithvi Shaw out of the Australia tour in 2018-19 season. Jasprit Bumrah’s injury might not be that bad but given the way he twisted his ankle, it won’t be surprising if it causes problems later and he misses few games on the tour.
Jasprit Bumrah, meanwhile, performed as per expectation as he was the pick of the bowlers on an otherwise dismal display from Team India with the ball. The right-arm pacer was the only bowler who conceded less than 8 runs as New Zealand finished their innings on a mammoth total of 203 for 5 after being asked to bat first. For New Zealand, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor scored fifties.
India are in New Zealand to play a total of five T20Is, three ODIs and a couple of Tests.
