India vs England 2018, 2nd ODI - Toss Report

Updated - 14 Jul 2018, 05:06 PM

England won the toss and decided to bat first against India in the second One-Day International at Lord’s.

Here is what the captains said:

Eoin Morgan:

“We are gonna have a bat first. There was a bit rain yesterday. We’ll only find a way over the time. Hopefully we’ll stick to our plans and get better. We need to stick to our strengths and we need to learn as we go along. We got the same team.”

Virat Kohli:

“We were looking to bowl first, we are pretty happy with it. Lord’s has always helped the seamers. We’ll try to make the most of the two new balls. The spinners are doing a great job for us in the middle overs. The World Cup is too far way ahead. We need to stick to the present and not worry about things too much.”

Preview:

Contrary to the popular speculations, the much-anticipated India-England continues to be anything but thrilling. Out of the four games played so far, India have thoroughly dominated the three. India won the T20I series 2-1 without breaking any sweat. And the storyline remained pretty much the same in the first ODI.

The English batsmen first failed to handle Kuldeep Yadav before the Indian batsmen made light work of the chase. Asked to bat first, England could only manage 268 with Kuldeep picking up a career-best 6 for 25. In reply, India chased down the total inside 41 overs with Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten ton leading the way.

It was an absolute cakewalk for India and unless England finds a way to deal with Kuldeep, the series could be over by today itself. England had done well to bounce back in the T20Is and they would be desperate to do something similar today too. With the series on the line, it would be exciting to see how the hosts react.
