India vs New Zealand 2019: Absolutely A Terrific Performance From Hardik Pandya - Sunil Gavaskar

After staying a fine time away from the field, Hardik Pandya made a successful return to the Indian National Cricket Team. Straightaway, the all-rounder displayed his class for the team with his fielding and bowling efforts. Meanwhile, the former legendary cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar lauds the performance of the youngster at Bay Oval, which helped India seal the series.

The Baroda all-rounder initially impressed by taking a stunning catch to send Kane Williamson back to the hut. Later, he followed it up beautifully by bagging a couple of wickets in his 10-over quota. He gave away 45 runs in his spell.

Gavaskar hailed his brilliant display on the comeback as ‘absolutely terrific’. Gavaskar, who is currently on commentary duties for the ongoing series, praised the all-rounder after New Zealand’s innings.

He quoted that Hardik will bring the much-needed balance to the team. Further, he went on to say adding that the young all-rounder can fill the blank, which helps India in trying out various combinations ahead of ICC World Cup 2019.

“Terrific performance, absolutely terrific performance. It’s never easy [to fly and straightway play a match]. The jet lag can get to you. He is a young man, he has had things that have happened and he just wants to forget it. The best way to forget it is being out on the field. And this is what he does best. Being on the field and playing for the country… that’s what you want,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

“That’s the plus that Hardik Pandya brings to the team. He is such an outstanding fielder. He will get you some impossible catches, get you some terrific run-outs and then with the bat and the ball, he does well. Pandya was very, very impressive. You know why this team management wants him in the side. He actually fills that little blank that was there. This allows the team to be balanced. He covers all the bases for the team.”

It was an incredible effort by Hardik Pandya, as he delivered the goods despite coming into the game with a lot of hatred behind his back. Apart from all the other things, the amount of grit and determination shown by the youngster deserves great applause.

All in all, his performance came on the winning cause, as India convincingly thrashed Kiwis by 7 wickets. The victory also sealed India a series victory and are left with a couple of games to carry their experiments on the team.
