India’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami gave a perfect start to the visitors. Shami bowled a good length ball to New Zealand opener Martin Guptill. The ball took the inside edge straight on to the stumps and India had their first wicket of the day. The right-hander came to the front foot but could not get his defense right.

Furthermore, Shami provided another breakthrough as he clean bowled Colin Munro. Shami found the gap between bat and pad of Munro and the ball kissed the top of off-stump. Thus, Shami bowled a brilliant first spell in which he also bowled two maidens. Moreover, he gave away only 13 runs in his first four overs.

On the other hand, Yuzvendra Chahal got another wicket when Ross Taylor advanced down the track and played the ball back to the bowler. The right-hander played a half-hearted shot and made the mistake of hitting the ball in the air. Chahal also took a good low catch in his follow through.

Meanwhile, New Zealand captain won the toss and decided to bat first. India has surprisingly dropped Dinesh Karthik and they have picked Vijay Shankar, Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav.

Vijay Shankar could have had the wicket of New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson. However, Kedar Jadhav dropped a simple catch at deep fine leg. This would have been Vijay Shankar’s maiden ODI wicket.

Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal had another caught and bowled when he sent back Tom Latham. The southpaw batsman shimmied down the track and made the same mistake as Ross Taylor of hitting the ball back to the bowler.

New Zealand is currently in some trouble as they have lost four wickets for 76 runs.
