New Zealand pacer Tim Southee has created a new record for inflicting the highest number of dismissals on Virat Kohli across formats. The Indian skipper was outsmarted by Southee’s delivery during India and New Zealand’s second ODI match at the Eden Park, on Saturday.

India were asked to chase the score of 274 runs, and Kohli was still batting on 15 when Southee sent him packing to the dressing room. With his latest dismissal of the Indian captain, Southee has now become the most successful bowler against Kohli.

Today was the sixth occasion when Southee got the better of Kohli in ODI cricket. The New Zealand pacer is tied on six dismissals with the West Indies bowler Ravi Rampaul. In the 50-over format, Thisara Perera and Adam Zampa have both taken Kohli’s wicket five times each.

Earlier today Southee dismissed him for a record ninth time, and he has now inflicted the highest number of dismissals on Kohli, across all formats, in international cricket.

Tim Southee becomes Virat Kohli’s nemesis, by taking his wicket for a record ninth time.

Kohli has struggled to find any sort of form on the New Zealand tour. Known for his batting prowess, the 31-year-old’s highest score in the ongoing tour stands at 51 runs, which he scored in the first ODI.

Even without his exploits, team India were able to oust the Kiwis at home by a margin 5-0 in the T20 series.

The right-handed batsman’s underwhelming performances would be a matter of concern for India who succumbed to a defeat in the second ODI, and team has now surrendered the ODI series to New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Southee dismissed Kohli for the ninth time across all formats, overtaking James Anderson and Graeme Swann, both of whom had undone the Indian skipper eight times each.

Behind them, are Morne Morkel, Nathan Lyon, Zampa and Rampaul who all stand at third, with seven dismissals of Kohli.

India would like to avoid being whitewashed by the hosts, as the attention now shifts to the third ODI on 11th February, at the Bay Oval, Tauranga.
