India vs South Africa ODI Series To Take Place At Later Date
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) have decided to “reschedule” the three-match ODI series at a later date. The series was called off on Friday in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Both the boards will now jointly work out a revised schedule.
The first match of the series in Dharamsala was abandoned without a ball being bowled. The next two matches were scheduled to be played in Lucknow and Kolkata on March 12 and 15 respectively. After the first ODI was washed out, the BCCI had announced that the remaining two games would be held behind closed doors before calling off the series on Friday.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday announced to reschedule the ongoing ODI series in view of the Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) outbreak,” the BCCI said in a media release issued on Friday.
“Cricket South Africa will visit India at a later date to play 3 One-day Internationals. The BCCI-CSA will jointly work out the revised schedule,” added the release.
The statement makes it pretty clear that the two teams would play a fresh set of three ODIs even though technically the first ODI had been completed in this series. Before calling off the ODI series, the BCCI had also deferred the IPL until April 15.
In other developments, England’s upcoming two-match Test series in Sri Lanka has been called off too. The Road Safety World Series was recently called off. On the other hand, the Australia-New Zealand ODI series is being played behind closed doors.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to continue the Pakistan Super League but a number of overseas have already left the tournament. The PCB later announced that they have cut short the competition and it would now end on March 18 instead of March 23.
