The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced ODI squad for the first two One-Dayers against the Windies. Virat Kohli will take back the captaincy helm after getting rest from the Asia Cup. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant is able to make the cut into the ODI squad. Rishabh Pant has already made his T20I and Test debut. However, he hasn’t made his ODI debut yet.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah who were rested for the Test series against the Windies are given extended rest. Kumar and Bumrah have been India’s linchpin in the limited overs format and could find their place for the final three matches.

The first ODI will take place at Guwahati on 21st October. India has approximately 18 ODIs left before they play their first match at the next year World Cup. Thus, Virat Kohli will like to fill in the missing gaps. In fact, the biggest gap in the Indian team has been the number four position.

Thus, India will look to give an opportunity to a player who can do justice to the role. Ambati Rayudu was able to get a couple of half-centuries in the Asia Cup. Thus, he is expected to get a longer role at number four slot. Furthermore, Rayudu is also included in the squad for the first two matches.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja also finds his place in the squad. Jadeja has been in prolific form in the last one month. However, Hardik Pandya misses out as he is in the recovery process.

Kedar Jadhav also could not find his place in the squad. Jadhav had suffered a hamstring injury in the final of the Asia Cup against Bangladesh.

Khaleel Ahmed who impressed with his performances in the Asia Cup retains his place in the side. Furthermore, Mohammed Shami returns to the ODI squad after a long time. Shami has been in prolific form in the red ball version. Shardul Thakur continues to find his place in the squad despite the ordinary performances.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik is also not included in the Indian ODI squad. Karthik has produced decent performances. However, he hasn’t come up with impactful innings.

Here is the Indian squad for the first two One-Dayers:

Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni (wk), Rishabh Pant, R Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, KL Rahul.
