India vs Windies 2018: It Could be Another One Sided Series - Sunil Gavaskar

Updated - 21 Oct 2018, 01:31 PM

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar predicts the ODI series between India and Windies would be a one-sided series as the hosts will dominate over the visitors. India had a dominating Test series against Windies. They won the first match by an innings and 272 runs followed by another win by ten wickets.

However, in the recently concluded Test series between India and Windies, apart from the first session of the third day of the second Test, the visitors failed to challenge the hosts. Apart from this session, India didn’t face any pressure in the entire series. Both of the Test matches ended within three days.

India is going to favorites.

“The Test series was a damp squib, and except the morning session on Day Three of the second Test, the Indians had no pressure at all. They were coasting at all times. Despite the odd failure, the team effort was so massive that the once mighty Windies looked out of depth. Before Indians start rejoicing in this, they better hark back to the 1960s when many of their teams also lost in three days and with similar margins against the West Indies and some others too,” Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column for Times of India.

Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar feels Windies can play a much better game in the limited overs format. Moreover, the best players are not included in the series. Some of them are playing franchise cricket, or some are at their home. India recently had won the Asia Cup title and will try to keep the winning rhythm going. Gavaskar feels that ‘practice makes a man perfect’ not only applies for any individual but it also helps the entire team.

India will look to continue the winning habit.

“The Windies have a chance to do better in the limited-overs series but here again their best players are either at home or playing in some franchise cricket somewhere in the world. This is an issue that needs world cricket to ponder about, for the game needs the Windies flair and style that excites and thrills like no other. India, of course, can only play the team that’s out in the park and they would want to keep the winning rhythm going. The old saying ‘practice makes perfect’ applies not just to individuals but also to teams and practising winning can be habit forming,” Sunil Gavaskar added.

India will play the first ODI match with Windies on October 21 (Sunday) at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. The hosts will look to continue their supremacy whereas the visitors will like to turn the tables.
