Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra is very happy yet so confused with the team selection of India for the upcoming match against the Windies.

Karnataka opener Mayank Agarwal and right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj, who plays for Hyderabad in first-class cricket, will be the newcomer in the 14-member Indian squad. However, India will play two-Test home series against West Indies that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on 29 September.

Mayank Agarwal has shown some brilliant determination throughout the year.

 

Aakash Chopra is happy as he was finally rewarded with a maiden Test call-up. The Karnataka batsman has scored heavily across first-class and one-day cricket since 2017. Moreover, Mayank was the highest run-getter in the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 with 1,160 runs from 13 innings at an average of 68.80. In the recent match between Indian Board President’s XI and West Indies, Agarwal scored 90 runs off 111 balls. Agarwal finished as the second highest scorer in the recently concluded India A Team Quadrangular Series. He scored 236 runs in 4 innings with the highest score of 124 runs.

In addition to that, Aakash Chopra is delighted as Mohammed Siraj will be seen inside the nets.

Sijar impressed during the Indian Premier League this year will be seen on filed with the Indian Test team. The right-hand pacer has picked up 21 wickets from 17 IPL matches. however, his first-class average is even better averaging 18.92. In his last three first-class matches, Siraj bagged with 25 wickets. He played one match against Australia A and two matches against South Africa A.

Prithvi Shaw has been scoring runs consistently in the first-class cricket since his debut in January last year.

He started off with a century scoring 120 runs against Tamil Nadu. The 18-year-old showed great form while playing Test matches for India A. Moreover, he notched scores of 188 and 136 against West Indies A and South Africa A respectively. However, Aakash Chopra is happy to see the Mumbai batsman is going to be a part of the Test squad. Recently, he scored 129 runs off 81 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Railways.

Aakash Chopra also talks about the Karun Nair and Rohit Sharma who is not a part of the Test side. He, however, wants to see the combination of the Indian team and how the youngster will contribute for the nation.

“Happy for Prithvi, Mayank and Siraj…but what about Nair and Rohit? Food for thought….”
