Indian Team Announced For ODI World Cup For Blind

Ajay Kumar Reddy will lead a 17-member Indian squad at the fifth ODI World Cup Cricket Tournament For The Blind, the Cricket Association for Blind (CABI) announced on Monday (December 5). The tournament will be held in Pakistan and Dubai from January 7 to 21, 2018.

The squad was announced after considering the players’ performance in zonal and national tournaments which were held in different parts of the country from October 8 to November 3, 2017. The 24th national championship was conducted in Mumbai from where 56 players were selected for the final selection camp in Pune.

The squad will not train for a month in a camp, supported by BookASmile, the charity initiative of India’s largest online entertainment ticketing brand BookMyShow. The camp will be held in Gopalan School Complex, Whitefield, in Bengaluru from December 6, 2017, to January 4, 2018.

Meanwhile, the other teams who will feature in the tournament are Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia and South Africa. India, who won the World T20 for Blind earlier this year, are the defending champions and will be looking to retain their title and become only the second team after Pakistan to win the coveted title twice. The inaugural season, which was hosted in 1998, was won by South Africa before Pakistan won the following two editions in 2002 and 2006 respectively. India laid their hands on the title in 2014.
