The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has requested BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to be India’s goodwill ambassador at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.  IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta has written to Ganguly requesting the latter to be at the games.

The Olympics will be held in Tokyo between July 24 to August 9 2020. It is not the first time that a former cricketer is representing as India’s goodwill ambassador.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was India’s goodwill ambassador at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Apart from him, Salman Khan and Abhinav Bindra were also India’s goodwill ambassador at Rio.

Ganguly rightly deserves the honour as he has had an illustrious career so far. Off the field, he has also been crucial in the development of sports throughout the country.
