One of the best bowlers at the death, Kings XI Punjab’s Andrew Tye, claimed that one has to keep his self-esteem aside while bowling in Twenty20 format owing to the contemporary cricket.

Tye went to Kings XI Punjab for a price of INR 7.2 crore after an impressive last season for Gujarat Lions in Indian Premier League (BBL) and Perth Scorchers in Big Bash League (BBL).

The Australian international sensation Tye after claiming three hat-tricks in a single season, in the shortest format of the game has been adamant in approach. He is the only bowler to achieve the aforementioned feat.

Tye transferred his form from Down Under into the Mohali-based franchise, playing alongside the likes of Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, and Aaron Finch.

I bowl to Chris (Gayle) in the nets and that is challenging enough. You can’t take things personally in this format. You will get hit for a six, but you can’t react emotionally,” Andrew Tye told Sportstar Live.

“The nature of this format is such (you are always at risk of being hammered). You can limit the damage by executing your plans the best you can,” he added.

Also, Andrew Tye is known to have 30 different kinds of variations which pundits still try to come up with terminologies for each.

Besides Gayle, you got so many dangerous players, even in other teams. You got Kohli (Virat) and A.B. (de Villiers), Rohit (Sharma) and Suryakumar (Yadav),” the Perth Scorcher’s cricketer said.

There are always different guys you have not seen and they can surprise you. And there are guys you have seen a lot of, but they are so good that you can’t get them out. It is always a challenge,” added Tye.

In the nine games so far for Kings XI, Tye is already amongst the leading wicket-takers in the tournament with as many as 12 wickets.

Later on, Tye conceded that he is still on a learning curve as he started out his professional career quite recently.

I started playing professional cricket very late, therefore, I came into the international set-up late. I have started slow and I don’t hide away from that. However, I have got some performances on board and it is developing nicely,” Tye said.

When asked about the differences between BBL and IPL, Andrew Tye quoted that the two events have their own sets of challenges.

Both (IPL and BBL) are tough in their own right. Both are played in different conditions. The wickets are slower here, compared to the Big Bash, grounds are smaller in some instances, you are playing against the best players in the world. You have to find a way to adjust,” concluded Andrew Tye.
