During IPL 2017, Gautam Gambhir revealed his desire to play for Delhi Daredevils again. He was then the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders.

But now, the desire of Gambhir to play again for Delhi could come true, as Kolkata Knight Riders are not expected to retain Gambhir on Thursday, and this will be the first step for the stalwart in going back to Delhi.

The matter of Gambhir looking forward to playing for Delhi again revealed by Sourav Ganguly, who during a show on Star Sports had said he has learnt of Gambhir looking forward to plying his trade for Delhi Daredevils franchise, again.

Gambhir was a part of Delhi Daredevils in the first three seasons of IPL. He also led the side when Virender Sehwag stepped down from the leadership post.

However, Gambhir later got released from the franchise, but Sehwag was retained.  KKR went onto purchase Gambhir for a record price of 11.04 Crore in the IPL auction 2011 and also appointed him as the captain. The left-handed batsman did well and led the team to a title victory in 2012. Later, he was retained by the franchise in 2014 and again, he led the team to a title victory.

In 2017, Gambhir led the team to second-round but did not hear a message from the KKR management regarding his future plans with the franchise. It was learnt that KKR is looking forward to retaining Sunil Narine due to his all round abilities.

Any news over retention will be confirmed today when IPL franchises will sit down during the retention ceremony.

For the first time, the event will have a live telecast.
