Jaydev Unadkat, on Friday, said that other Rajasthan Royals batsmen need to contribute after Jos Buttler’s fourth consecutive fired the team to a thrilling 4-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in a must-win clash.

The England wicketkeeper-batsman scored an unbeaten knock of 95 to take his side home. Right from the very start till the very end, it was all about Buttler as other batsmen failed to complement him well. The decision to open with Ben Stokes backfired as the allrounder could score only 11. Ajinkya Rahane’s (4) poor form continued while debutant Prashant Chopra (8) could not make a big impression.

But fortunately for the Royals, Buttler stayed till the end, scoring the required 12 runs in the final over to help them register their fifth victory of the season.

“Buttler has been taking the innings forward on his own in last four games. It is high time someone takes up the responsibility. Stuart Binny played well today while Krishnappa Gowtham struck some crucial blows; otherwise, it would have been too hard for Jos to carry us over the line on his own. Some extra runs from the middle order are welcome now,” Unadkat said at the post-match conference.

In the last four games, Buttler has had scores of 67,51,82 and 95* – one against Delhi Daredevils, two against Kings XI Punjab and against Chennai Super Kings. In all the matches, the middle order has not chipped in, with Sanju Samson’s 28 against Kings XI Punjab the highest by any other Royals batsmen in all the games.

Unadkat further said that the team needs to work on its bowling. The Royals were guilty of bowling too many extras. Unadkat and Jofra Archer bowled four and five wides respectively.

“We need to be careful about it. I definitely feel over 10 extras is too much in a Twenty20 game. This is something that we have to work on and restricting the extras will give a cushion of 10-20 runs for our batting side. That is one area of concern,” Unadkat said.

Royals’ next game is against Mumbai Indians on Sunday at the Wankhede. It is a must-win clash for both the teams as the loser of the game can find itself out of the playoff race.
