In the highly anticipated Qualifier 1 clash in the Playoffs of IPL 2018, it was the comeback kings, Chennai Super Kings, who trumped the table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad for the third time in the tournament by two wickets.
The match was set brilliantly by CSK bowlers who reduced the men in orange to 88-6, as the likes of Lungi Ngidi, Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja were sensational on the given day, to restrict the batting heavy SRH unit up front.
Carlos Brathwaite registered a priceless knock, just when his team needed it the most, after remaining unused in the tournament.
It was looking out of reach – Faf
CSK, chasing a sub-par score of 140, received few early hiccups which jeopardised their chances of clinching the match.
Continuing of the CSK theme of the tournament, where different individuals performed on separate occasions, it was Faf du Plessis, who was the hero of the match for the men in yellow.
With wickets falling at the other end and steeping required run-rate, the South African captain used all his experience to help Chennai Super Kings book a place in the finals.
For his unbeaten knock of 67 under pressure, Faf du Plessis was awarded as the man of the match title.
“It’s nice to make a contribution tonight. Haven’t played much. Last night when I was preparing, I reflected on the games I’ve played here in Mumbai. It’s a stadium I’ve enjoyed playing. Took confidence from that,” Faf du Plessis commented while receiving his man of the match title.
“It was looking out of reach. Everything went our way towards the end. Even the tailenders struck few boundaries in the end. It was like the win was scripted for us tonight,” Du Plessis continued.
“Rashid Khan was a handful on that wicket. He was really really tough to play on that wicket. It stopped a bit on that wicket, and he bowls quickly. Towards the end, I was just trying to place a few,” concluded Faf du Plessis.
