England international, Mark Wood is all set to leave Indian Premier League (IPL) midway, in order to return back home and prepare for the upcoming series against Pakistan.
Wood returns back to England having featured in just a single game for table-toppers Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Moreover, the likes of Lungi Ngidi and David Willey were preferred over the expensive Englishmen.
In the sole match played against Mumbai Indians (MI), Wood went for as many as 49 in his four-over spell, without opening his IPL account in the wickets tally.
The all-format bowler for England will resume his county season with Durham which would help him prepare against the upcoming Test series against Pakistan and India respectively.
Wood’s decision was fuelled by him not part of the playing XI since the inaugural IPL match this season.
The Durham bowler now eyes a place in the England eleven against Pakistan, later this month.
The announcement from Wood was made on his Instagram account which stated,”The decision has been made for me to return home to England to prepare for the English summer.”

Wood leaves India to prepare for the Test matches against Pakistan and India, during his stint at Durham
“Having worked so hard to get back into the test team. And, because I’m not currently not in the CSK side, I am coming home to play for Durham. Hopefully, I’ll put my name in the hat for Test match selection.” continued Wood.
The death bowling specialist was inducted into the Test XI earlier this year during England’s tour to New Zealand.
Wood displayed his all-round abilities with his maiden Test fifty during the series. England went on to lose the Test series by 0-1.
Along with Mark Wood, the other members of the English contingent in IPL are also slated to depart by the end of the group stage. These include the likes of Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes.
Further, the first Test match is scheduled to be hosted at Lord’s on May 24, before the action moves to Headingley on June 1.
