IPL 2018: Mark Wood Reveals the Reason to Return Back Home

England fast bowler Mark Wood revealed the reason that what made him return back home. Wood, who was part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp received a solitary opportunity in the Indian Premier League (C. The fast bowler was roped by CSK in the IPL auctions for his base price of INR 1.5 crore.
Wood was able to make his IPL debut in the first match of the season. However, he had a poor outing in his maiden match. The English pacer conceded 49 runs and went wicketless.
Furthermore, Wood didn’t receive any other opportunity in the remaining matches of the ongoing eleventh season of IPL.
Wood wants to prove himself in the longest format of the game.
The paceman then took the decision to return to the United Kingdom (UK). He revealed that former England skipper and current director of ECB Andrew Strauss convinced him to come back home and play for his County Durham.
Moreover, Wood, later on, found his name in the England squad, for the two-Test match series against Pakistan. Wood believes that he has a point to prove in red ball form. Wood maintained that he is happy to be back.
“I’m glad to be back. It was a difficult decision and I was 50-50 whether I leave. Andrew Strauss rang me up and said, if you’re not playing, there’s real value in coming home to push my case and try to keep my spot in the team. I worked so hard trying to get back in the Test side. At the time I wondered whether it was the right decision but as soon as I got back and took some wickets, it was the right decision,” Wood said while talking to ESPN Cricinfo.
England fast bowler wants to prove himself in the next season of IPL.
Wood further added that he would have liked to play more matches for Super Kings. The English fast bowler said that he would like to have another shot in the next season of the IPL.
Mark further added, “I would have liked to have played more. It was hard going travelling every day and not playing. I was the only member of the England side who hadn’t been home for about seven months so that side was hard. I’m disappointed that I didn’t get to prove myself in that competition. To have one game and not do well leaves a bit of a sour taste. I’d like to go back and have one more crack at it and prove myself at that standard, which is the best T20 competition in the world”.
Mark Wood has made the cut in England Test squad and would like to deliver the goods for his national team.
England will lock horns against Pakistan in the first Test which will be played at the home of cricket, Lord’s from May 24.
