Virat Kohli’s another fifty this season went in vain as Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets. Put in to bat first, openers Brendon McCullum and Quinton de Kock gave Bangalore a solid start by adding 67 runs for the first wicket. However, after McCullum’s departure in tenth over, Kohli had to wage a lone battle till the last ball of the innings.

And Kohli led from the front once again. He remained unbeaten, scoring 68 off 44 to ensure his side finish with a competitive total of 175/4.

But in the end it did not turn out to be a winning total. Chris Lynn starred for the visitors, scoring a gritty 52-ball 62 and remained unbeaten to help his team cross the line in the last over. He received good support from Sunil Narine (27), Robin Uthappa (36) and Dinesh Karthik (23).

With the game now done and dusted, here is a look at some interesting numbers and stats:

1. Andre Russell could not weave his magic with the bat on his birthday. The West Indian became only the third player after Misbah-ul-Haq and Chris Morris to be out for a duck on his birthday in the IPL.

2. This was the sixth time Knight Riders were batting second against Royal Challengers in IPL. The Kolkata-based outfit has ended up on the winning side in all those six matches.

3. Knight Riders now have the second most number of win in Bangalore. It was their ninth win in 15 games in Bangalore. Royal Challengers have won 36 matches while Mumbai Indians have also won nine of the 12 games.

4. Virat Kohli has now scored 19 fifties in losing cause in IPL. He is at the top of this list, followed by his India teammate Rohit Sharma who has scored 14 fifties in the losing cause in the IPL.
