The 42nd match of Vivo IPL 11 will be a dead-rubber. The table toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad who have already qualified for the playoffs will lock horns against the bottom-placed side, Delhi Daredevils in the tournament.

The only positive for Delhi will be playing on their ground. Barring that there are hardly any positives they had in the tournament to take forward. They are almost knocked out of the tournament and require something extraordinary to keep their slim hopes of making it to the playoffs alive.

Delhi has been quite lacklustre in the bowling department. The newly appointed skipper, Shreyas Iyer has looked in good touch all through the tournament. Opener Prithvi Shaw has also been among the runs after being given a break.

Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, is one of the leading run scorers in the competition. Despite some great batting performances, they have failed to gel as a unit in crunch situations which has resulted in their disastrous performance yet again.

The decision of Gautam Gambhir to step down from the captaincy was certainly a huge one. Delhi also revived their hopes a bit after winning two matches quite convincingly. However, the consistency hasn’t been there which means their campaign in the tournament is as good as over. If any slim chances are there, Delhi needs to win all their remaining four games by huge margins.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, have all their bases covered. Their bowling department has led them from the front on most occasions. They have defended totals less than 155 in their last five games and have done that quite emphatically.

Even in the previous game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Hyderabad bowlers were simply superb.

At one stage, Bangalore required a shade over 70 runs from ten overs with skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers still at the crease. However, the Hyderabad bowlers had other ideas. Kohli played a horrendous shot which brought about his downfall for 38.

On the other hand, Rashid Khan bamboozled de Villiers with a terrific delivery which turned the match on its head. From there on, the Hyderabad bowlers applied the pressure on Bangalore.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a terrific final over where he conceded just six runs and bagged the wicket of Colin de Granhdomme. It was world-class death bowling which was also mentioned by the Hyderabad skipper, Kane Williamson.

They will hardly look to make any changes and continue their dominant run in the tournament. Given the bowling attack Hyderabad has, it will be a very difficult task for Delhi to upstage them.

Team Combinations

Delhi Daredevils

What changes can Delhi make?? They have chopped and changed several times, but the results haven’t been there to show. The form of Glenn Maxwell is a huge concern. However, he is expected to be given another go at the top of the order after his unfortunate dismissal in the previous clash. Naman Ojha who played as a proper batsman might also be given another shot.

Predicted XI: Prithvi Shaw, Glenn Maxwell, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Naman Ojha, Vijay Shankar, Daniel Christian, Liam Plunkett, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Trent Boult

There is no doubt about the fact that Hyderabad will look to keep their winning momentum going. Hence the same team is expected to be fielded today.

Predicted XI: Alex Hales, Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, Shakib Al Hasan, Wriddhiman Saha, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, Siddarth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma

Match Prediction

There is simply no doubt about the fact that Hyderabad will start as outright favourites for the match. They have bowled quite magnificently, and I will back them to continue their winning momentum and make it nine out of 11. So yeah, again, it is Hyderabad!
