IPL 2018: MS Dhoni Goes Past Gautam Gambhir to Become Leading Run Scorer as Captain

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the highest run scorer as a skipper in Vivo IPL going the past the record held by former Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils skipper Gautam Gambhir. Captain Cool eclipsed the record during his whirlwind knock of 51 of just 22 deliveries which were studded with a couple of fours and 5 sixes. It was carnage on display by Magnificent Mahendra as he literally toyed with the Delhi Daredevils bowler.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper comes 3rd in the list with 3333 runs under his belt as a skipper. Currently, Dhoni has scored 3557 runs as a skipper while Gambhir has scored 3518 runs. Mumbai Indians skipper who is the most successful skipper in the tournament so far is 4th in the list with 2193 runs as a skipper of the Mumbai Indians.
Dhoni has been in quite a sensational form in this edition of the tournament so far. His innings of 79 of 44 deliveries against the Kings XII Punjab almost handed them victory from a hopeless situation. However, they fell 4 runs short of the eventual. Despite the early hiccups it as Dhoni’s magnificent innings which took the match to the wire.

He played a match-winning knock of 70 of 34 deliveries against the Royal Challengers Bangalore which ensured Chennai chased down a mammoth target of 206 runs in their allotted 20 overs. His knock yesterday against the Daredevils was another Dhoni special. He smashed Trent Boult for a couple of sixes on a trot. He also flicked a couple of low full tosses over the boundary ropes for sixes.
Gambhir has stepped down from captaining the Delhi Daredevils following his lean. However, it was under his leadership that Kolkata won a couple of titles. RCB skipper Virat Kohli has been among the runs in the tournament so far. He has played some magnificent knocks but his teammates haven’t really given him the supporting role. He has been left stranded in one end as wickets have fallen on a cluster.
Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma played a match-winning knock against the Chennai Super Kings the other day which helped Mumbai get back to winning ways. He remained unbeaten on 56 of just 33 deliveries to get Mumbai back on track. The match against Bangalore today will be a humdinger. Both teams need a win badly and will push a bit harder for a victory.
