There is absolutely no substitute for experience and Shane Watson once again proved it. The all-rounder played one of the finest innings in the history of IPL, as Chennai Super Kings thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets to lift the title for the third time.

It was an innings of the highest quality, as Watson aced the 179-run chase. The 36-year old hard-hitting batsman strangely started his innings. He took 11 balls to get off the mark.

However, it was not the precursor of the things that were to follow. The opener took his time to settle down, but once he had his eyes set, it was absolute carnage. He ruthlessly targeted Siddarth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma, who went for 95 in their seven overs.

The all-rounder took 32 balls to reach his fifty and reached the three-digit off just 51 balls. He remained till the end to take the Super Kings home in the 19th over.

Watson remained unbeaten on 117. The knock came off just 57 balls and studded with 11 fours and eight sixes.

It was a knock that will remain etched in the memory of the cricket fans for a long long time.

And Bollywood star, Ranveer Singh’s perfectly summed up Watson’s knock. The actor took to Twitter to hail Watson, writing:

“WATTO PLAYA !!!! @ShaneRWatson33. That’s how you bat in a final ! Took his time , got in there & then exploded . Methodical destruction ✊???? #IPL2018Final”

Meanwhile, earlier in the game, useful contributions from Kane Williamson and Yusuf Pathan helped the Sunrisers score a challenging 178 for six.

Sunrisers were off to a poor start, as Shreevats Goswami was run out for just five. Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson then steadied the ship. The duo added 51-run for the second wicket before Dhawan departed. The southpaw was castled by Ravindra Jadeja after scoring 26.

Williamson along with Shakib Al Hasan then took the innings forward. They helped the Sunrisers enter the three-digits in the 11th over.

However, just after crossing the team ton, the Sunrisers suffered a big setback in the form of Williamson. The skipper fell to Karn Sharma after scoring 47.

Towards the end, Yusuf Pathan and Carlos Brathwaite played quickfire knocks to help their side post a good total. Pathan remained unbeaten on 45 off 25 while Brathwaite smashed 21 off 11 balls.
