Learning from every passing auction, the Britain-based famous auctioneer Richard Madley has been the man of the moment for the grand auctions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and he is thrilled to return to crazy cricket nation for the eleventh edition which has already witnessed the massive overhauling.

“I’m a high energy auctioneer. I’m still fascinated by what things sell for. IPL is the highlight of my career without a doubt,” Madley was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.com

Who’s Madley?

The renowned auctioneer Richard has been grabbing all the attention since the inception of the lucrative IPL in 2008 which further saw him being in love with the Twenty20 competition.

Following the remarkable role from Lalit Modi for the professional T20 league, Madley made his first appearance in Bengaluru on February 20, 2008, which further saw the auction room echoing with the hammer as he went on to felt it has further forced him to count the professional competition in his resume.

The human error in the seventh edition:

The auctioneer in the form of Madley is said to have committed a mistake in 2014 auction when Yuvraj Singh sealed the INR 16 crore.

“KKR, who were on my extreme right, called out ‘I was bidding’. What people don’t realise watching on television is that the auction room is huge,” Madley remarked.

In the bidding war, was Kings XI Punjab also which further saw Royal Challengers Bangalore were forced to shell out the Extra amount after Kolkata Knight Riders management stated they were up for the bid after Madley struck the hammer on the table.

Moreover, the incident happened when RCB stretched the bid for INR 10 crore.

“Now you need to realise that I’m a human as well. I’ve got no DRS,” Madley asserted.

In cricketing terms, Madley, who has been with the IPL since past 10 editions reiterated one has to keep hawks eyes during the mega-auction while adding the positions are bound to play an imperative role, and he supposed himself as a gloveman.

“Imagine this – I’m standing behind the stumps at the batsman’s end. Now I have to scan from deep square leg to backward point on the boundary. And every position that comes in that 180 degrees,” Madley said.

What has Madley made the live auction interesting?

Owing to such a command, Madley has subsequently become the talk of the town which has further seen him bringing everything to the table which his smartness.

Known for playing hockey in his heydays, Madley further developed an interest in auctioneering and believed it’s always hard to scan the large hall which to be precise sets up no room for error.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shown more belief in experienced auctioneer Madley to host the auction for a decade of the successful IPL.

Concluding, the auction will be held on January 27 and 28 respectively in Bangalore which would further witness 16 marquee players being the face of the off-field contest between the franchises after the approved list of 578 players would be decided according to their luck this time around.
