IPL 2018: Shreyas Iyer Reveals his Game Plan to Colin Munro
Delhi Daredevils rookie skipper, Shreyas Iyer was on fire in his first game as Delhi captain in the ongoing IPL 2018.
The right-handed batsman scored a blistering unbeaten knock of 93 runs off just 40 to power his team to the highest IPL total of this season.
Iyer scored ten sixes and three fours in his match-defining knock. Meanwhile, Delhi Daredevils were under some pressure after losing five matches out of the six they had played. It was a crucial game for the Delhi team, as they were slipping down the slope.
Colin Munro who got included in the playing XI gave a good start to his team. After winning the match, the New Zealander southpaw went on to interview his new captain.
Munro asked Shreyas Iyer what was his mindset while going into the match. The rookie Delhi skipper said,
“I obviously wasn’t under pressure, to be honest. Because leading through the IPL, I led few teams back home. Obviously, the feeling was really amazing, leading the Delhi Daredevils for the first time in between the tournament”.
Delhi Daredevils were given a strong platform, as their openers, Prithvi Shaw and Colin Munro put together an alliance of 59 runs.
Shreyas was able to capitalise on the good start, as he scored his third consecutive fifty of the season.
“You guys gave a good start, and that made it really easy for the batsmen to come. This is the way I play; I give myself a bit of time because I know I can capitalize on the bowlers in the later stage. I back myself and I know I can take the spinners on and when the spinners came, I took them on.
On the lighter note, Iyer told Munro that he could be a good presenter after his cricketing career.
It was a dominating display of performance from the Delhi Daredevils, as they were able to get the better off Kolkata Knight Riders by mammoth 55 runs. The last match win must have instilled a lot of much-needed confidence in the Delhi camp.
Delhi Daredevils will next take on Chennai Super Kings on April 30 at latter’s newly adopted home ground of Pune.
